People Need a Cyrano for Online Dating

The situation: Online dating is like dancing; some people are effortlessly graceful, and others are a full-body dry heave. So why isn’t there a better way for those with an amorous facility to help others struggling to find and express love online?  Here at PSTI, we have already proposed a spam filter for online dating, but why not take the next logical step and create a site for online dating experts to advise their clients on what to write so their signal gets through all the ambient noise.

The solution: The consultants at this site - which I like to call Cyrano.me - could proofread profiles, coach clients through their messaging, and help select attractive-looking pictures so that users can put their best foot forward online (and avoid looking like a skeeze or creep.) There should be ethical guidelines to prevent consultants from misrepresenting their clients, but the result would be the best possible (virtual) impression. Cyrano.me may help you get the first date, but the rest is up to you.

The inspiration: Cyrano.me comes from the 17th century Frenchman Cyrano de Bergerac, who (according to the 19th century play by Edmond Rostand) famously helped his friend win the heart of the woman they both loved.

The competition: Some variations on this exist already. Myonlinedatingconsultant.com provides consultations, but they come at a price and the consultants are employed by the website, not open to the public. Profilehelper.com is similarly costly, and the advice seems to come from a limited perspective. Cyrano.me would be free to all, and the consultants would be from all different areas, so you could pick an expert with a track record for helping others snag the kind of dates you want!

PS: I’m not saying I want or need a service like this, but I suspect others out there might…
